The Sony HS51 projector ….man’s best friend?

When I first received my Sony HS51 I had no place to put it. I spent a chunk of change ($3500) and didn’t have much left for anything else. This is my first projector and I had dreams of incorporating it into my new apartment.

I have a lot of open space and I want to ceiling mount it but unfortunately I have to get a permit to drill into my concrete ceiling before I can make any further decisions. So for the last three months I’ve had it sitting on my coffee table and nobody is any the wiser other than the occasional wife tripping over the cord but recovering just in time for everything to remain intact.

The Sony HS51 has a sickly high contrast ratio, most other machines are left with their tongues wagging because this sweet beast has an mind altering 6000:1 !! This would make even the likes of George Lucas pass out due to jealousy. This happens to be one of the reasons why I purchased the Sony HS51 in the first place.

If your friends suspect that you may be a Sith lord than you will appreciate the details in everything black, like in the scene in Army of Darkness where Ash must retrieve The Book Of The Dead from that graveyard. Everything is clear, from the boney fists (ouch!) to the book itself making it easy to decipher which is the right one!

Getting back to the HS51, remember when I told you that I had it sitting on my coffee table? Well, the zoom lens allows me allows me to put it anywhere between the screen and myself. I am a bit of a clutz at times and I’ve spilled Pepsi on my keyboard a few times so I wanted to keep myself from hurting my prized HS51. I actually placed the HS51 on the “in between” shelf of my coffee table so that I could still eat my Doritos and not worry about getting crumbs stuck in the internal doo-hickeys.

This is the beauty of the Sony, the HS51 has a lens shift feature that allows vertical and horizontal movement and I simply turn it up 50% of the way and voila! The HS51 has the typical 1280 x 720 with 16:9 format so watching the television isn’t as pleasing and the other night when my son walked in during my nightly film screening the picture dimmed drastically. I wasn’t happy but since I use it mostly for DVD’s and usually at night it shouldn’t be much of a worry.
