HP: Projector Donations for Educational Institutions

Hewlett Packard has announced that they will be donating $2.1 million dollars in education technology, including several digital projectors, to 25 schools in the United States and Canada. The grants are to be donated on behalf of the Hewlett Packard’s Philanthropy and Education division and are intended for use in day-to-day classroom activities. HP hopes that by introducing wireless and high-end digital technology to classrooms that their technology will help students familiarize themselves with tools they will have to utilize when they eventually go out into the work world.

Each school that is slated to receive a technology grant from HP will receive what the company calls a mobile cart. Included in the mobile cart will be 15 Hewlett-Packard mobile tablet PC’s, a wireless HP digital projector (most likely the new MP3135) and a HP digital camera. The technology will be a welcome addition to all the schools.

It should be noted that the $2.1 million US dollars that HP is donating, will not be divided equally among the 25 benefiting schools. Ten colleges and universities will be receiving $1.3 million dollars in technological grants, while the remaining 15 K-12 schools will receive the remaining $800,000. Also, it should be noted that of the 10 colleges and universities receiving grants, 4 are state run schools, while 6 are private institutions including Brigham Young University.

HP has stated that the schools receiving grants are schools that have demonstrated effective and purposeful use of Hewlett-Packard technology in the past. Hopefully the schools that are being awarded the grants are not solely schools serving higher-income families. To avoid uncertainties such as this, it would be beneficial to Hewlett-Packard to produce a short press release detailing each of the schools, so that the public knows that HP is not aiding the old adage “the rich get richer, and the poor get poorerâ€.

Regardless, however, of whether the benefiting schools serve children of poorer or more wealthy families, Hewlett-Packard must be commended for being a Philanthropic leader in the wireless technology industry.

Keep up the good work HP!
