HP’s EP9012: All In One and One for All.
Hewlett-Packard has recently launched an amazing projector called the EP9012. What is so amazing about this unit is that it is basically the first projector to include DVD, speakers, and all your necessary inputs in one unit. One could literally, take this one to a vacant beach somewhere and watch a movie with another one, with no one around. All one would needs is a good DVD and white wall somewhere and a warm woman.Alright, so I’ll stop speaking about the word “one†and talk more sensibly about the HP EP90â€oneâ€2. The projector lamp inside this unit pumps out a brilliant 840 ANSI Lumens, which actually looks more like 1000 ANSI Lumens its so bright (the projector lamp is an UHP lamp). As I mentioned earlier, in my weak Shakespeare like language, the projector is an all-in-one unit. That means that it has a high-speed DVD player that can also read and play CD, MP3, VCD, CD-R and DVD-R formats. It has just about every input technology available as well including, RCA and coaxial digital cables for Dolby sound, and component, S-Video and DVI for high-quality video or PC presentations.
One drawback concerning this projector is that its design and shape make it look a little like a Fisher-Price’s â€Little Projector for Totsâ€. The HP EP9012 has a round shaped body and a round plastic base that it sits on, making it look like a an oversized web-cam that swallowed a New York City rat. The projector also has 3; yes that’s right 3 speakers built in; including two 5-watt tweeters and a 30-watt subwoofer. So, if you can’t find a blank canvas to project your latest pirated (we do not condone pirating as a practice, however, it is not illegal in the great province of Alberta.) DVD copy of Batman Begins, then at least you’ll be able to pump out some of your favorite tunes from that Rick James CD you hide in your glove compartment.
With all that said about the HP EP9012, I think the saving grace of this projector is the blinding 1599:1 contrast ratio. This factor alone tips this projector into the “go out and buy it†column as opposed to the infamous “don’t even try it†category for projectors that just seem a little silly. Take it easy.
