Panasonic PT-L6510U: ET-LAL6510 Projector Lamp
If you were lucky enough to have saved the cash for a 1080i projector back in 2002, you probably were eyeing up the Panasonic PT-L6510U. One of the first projectors to offer this mystical resolution, the PT-L6510 was one of the sharpest and clearest projectors of the day. Unfortunately, most mediums did not offer high resolution feeds yet, so most of its capabilities were wasted…until today. Now, there are a plethora of TV channels that provide HD quality viewing and while they still do not get as high as the elusive 1080p, at least you can get the full value out of your Blu-Ray discs.Chances are that if you bought this projector in the past, when it originally came out, it was for a professional movie theatre, or your own high-end media room. It was priced on the high side at $8,995 USD, and was quite large in its dimensions, and therefore was best fit into a place that was designed for movie viewing. It was definitely designed for professional use as the specifications imply: Optional lenses can be exchanged, multiple inputs can be accessed, it employs two extremely powerful 220W projector lamps at the same time, and it even has a picture-in-picture option.
Other than its 1080i capability, the real feature of this projector is the 4200 ANSI lumens of brightness that are powered by the dual projector lamps. Bright enough for large auditoriums, the PT-L6510 can even function when there is considerable ambient light. The one thing about this projector that was not very impressive was the 600:1 contrast ratio. We were expecting a little more considering the price tag and class level of this particular Panasonic. The dark images were not quite a black color, more of a dark grey. However, this is not the end of the world. There is still much more to this projector that will help you in presenting for a larger setting.
The lens is very versatile on the PT-L6510. It can be changed and upgraded for different throw distances, and it also has a power focus and zoom, which allows the user to maneuver the screen if necessary during a special show because it may not always be located in the same place. Aside from the manual zoom, it also has a digital zoom, a digital keystone correction, and a vertical lens shift. Whenever purchasing for a large venue or professional use, a good lens is always what makes the projector practical and functional.
We are now at the end of the specifications, yet we must conclude with what we began, which is the real resolution of this projector. It was listed as being able to display 1080i HD quality resolution, however, the PT-L6510 can realistically only display a true 1024x768p. What this means is that the 1080i is actually compressed, and made to look a little sharper, but it is not true HD. Despite all of this, the PT-L6510U is still a phenomenal projector.
