Dream Vision DL500: Projector Lamp Controversy

The Dream Vision DL500 is one of the more successful DLP projectors of all time, despite the fact that a relatively unknown company produces and offers it to the public. The successful sales figures are backed up by outstanding reviews from a majority of the people who own these units. And now, for the first time ever, myprojectorlamps.com is offering replacement lamps for these projectors for only $274.99 USD! This announcement will be sure to keep the popular projector in living rooms for years to come.

Let’s run down some of the specs on the DL500. The projector is a DLP projector, which some people prefer over LCD units. But because the projector is a DLP unit, it means that you can expect a higher price tag, (around $6,000 when it first debuted in 2000). Of course, you can probably find the projector used nowadays for much less.

The projector boasts a 120W projector lamp that pumps out 600 ANSI lumens …. Or is it 1000 ANSI lumens … Or is it 600? This is where the controversy comes in. Some websites out there (that will remain anonymous) claim that the DL500 has a light output of 1000 ANSI lumens; while other websites (and reputable ones at that) claim that the projector cranks out 600 ANSI lumens! Now, 400 ANSI lumens doesn’t sound like much, but when you consider that it is 40% of 1000 and 66% of 600 it seems like a bigger deal. Well, to set the record straight, the projector lamps that we sell for the DL500 here on this website bump out 1000 ANSI lumens. But, it is interesting to note that many different reputable websites are propagating different information.

Some of the other specs pertaining to the DL500 include a native resolution of 800x600 and a maximum resolution of 1024x768. The projector is also SDTV capable and operates with an aspect ratio of 4:3.

The projector itself is unique because it is stark white with a pitch black lens module, making it resemble a storm troopers helmet from one of the old school Star Wars movies.

Overall, this projector is a solid machine that is certain to still be popular five years from now.
