Philips CClear XG1…Just look at that lamp!

This one was made for television with full on brightness that would make Michael Jackson look like a child again. The Philips CCLEAR XG1 is aptly named as it was built for a large and highly defined resolution.

Right off the bat you will notice that this projector can spit out a huge image onto your wall, but more importantly for the television lovers out there, it can keep a nice bright image throughout the day. Keep the curtains somewhat open, making sure that you are at least avoiding direct sunlight on the viewing area itself.

The image size can be as large as 17 feet, and while this is not the biggest screen out there, it allows you to maintain a bright image that is not affected too much by ambient light. To be exact, the Philips CCLEAR XG1 pumps out a looming 2600 ANSI lumens bursting with flavour.

The 200W UHP projector lamp inside this baby provides ample power to make sure everything is running bright. The projector lamp lasts for an approximate of 2000 hours, which may seem like a lot, but if you are watching a lot of television, may go by faster than you think. With every projector that has its focus on lumens and the television viewer, comes a downside, and of course as you’ve guessed it is the contrast. The CCLEAR XG1 is a little low at 400:1 but for most television programs it really isn’t that bad. If you mostly watch sports the important thing is brightness and resolution.

So to conclude on the whole contrast thing; the blacks could be better and the colors more saturated, but you will live with it. Now we move on to the resolution, which is quite stunning offering 1024x768p, and a compression ability of 1280x1024p.

Watching sports in High Definition is what you really want to be doing with this projector. You have all the capability with the inputs including HD up to 1080i, DVI, and everything else one can imagine.

Rounding off the CCLEAR XG1 are two great features combining a low noise level of 33db and the usefulness of Picture-In-Picture. I am surprised that with such a bright picture produced by the 200W projector lamp, the CCLEAR XG1 is not overheating and thus making a lot of noise. Philips sure did their homework on this one. It is definitely one of my favourites!
